Award- Winning Books for StudentsAward Winners Overview

The Award Winners Database is the most comprehensive and dynamic compilation of award-winning books currently available online.  The ongoing database currently includes 121 children books awards programs representing both institutional awards programs and the state-based children's choice awards programs.  The highly recognized awards programs, such as Newbery, Caldecott, Coretta Scott King, Boston Globe-Horn Book, and many others are complemented with the book award programs that are based on children's choices. This cumulative combination of adult-selected books and children-selected books provides an in-depth as well as a broad and unique view of the best children's books, both the award winners and the honor books.

Criteria for Inclusion in Our Online Award Winners Database:
From our proprietary database of over 3,000 citations, you have access to the cumulative awards history for over 2,400 award-winning titles as well as the 150 titles in the Bookfolios Core Collection. The titles that are online include books that meet the following criteria:

1. All books that have won two or more awards and/or honors before 1990 in either the institution awards programs or the children's choice awards programs, or both. This criteria ensures the inclusion of both the reservoir children's literature and traditional titles as well as the high quality contemporary titles, many of which will become classics.

2. All books that have won one or more awards since 1990.   This coverage of the award winners during the past decade as well as the current award winners ensures the currency of the list, especially those titles that children select as their favorites long after they are published.

3.  All 150 titles that are in the Bookfolios Core Collection are also included in this database.

Important Note:  Bibliographic and other important information about a title is accessible from the Award Winners Database.  Most of the book briefs provided in the Bookview and the Annotated Reading List are taken from the card catalog description, with permission to include text on our site granted by the Library of Congress.  We do not include the print status of the titles as this is subject to change by the publisher at any time.  For your convenience, links to amazon.com are provided from any title on this site to the title in the amazon.com catalog where print status information is provided.  You may also order a book directly from this link. Proceeds from our affiliation with amazon.com will be donated to cancer research.
